Year 3 become ‘Explorers’ for a day

An expedition with a difference took place this week as Year 3 took on a special map and compass related challenge.

As part of their ‘Who lives in Antarctica?’ programme, students have been learning about map skills and putting them to use, creating directions and instructions for others to follow to truly explore the school grounds.

Mrs Clark says it was fascinating to see children putting new skills into use for the first time:

“Over the past few weeks we’ve learnt about the hostile conditions in Antarctica and some of the explorers who have travelled there. We focused on Ernest Shackleton and his journeys South, before learning about the eight points of a compass and eventually planning our own expedition around the school.”
